The Local Tourist

How many times have you said to yourself " I must go to ........." and have a look, but time goes by and you never get around to going? How many places in your town or city are there that you never go to unless you have a visitor staying with you?

It seems that life sometimes takes us over and we     forget about  going to the Civic Gardens and other places in our locale unless we have someone to show them to. We often wait until we have visitors from Interstate or Overseas to give us an excuse to be a Tourist in our own town.

I am often a Local Tourist. We are lucky in Adelaide, as  we have many beautiful places to go within a reasonable distance from the CBD.

One of my favourite places is the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens. There are all sorts of wonderful plants and flowers and little surprises to find like this pond.
The pond was by a path I had not found before. It created a lovely serene spot in which to sit for a while.
That's another thing about going to these sorts of places, you can just sit and relax; a great way to let go of the stress and tension of life. To be quiet and just be.
Science tells us that when we look at a beautiful view, our brains produce lots of feel good hormones. So you can see how important it is to visit places like Botanic Gardens.

Then there are the wonderful flowers; nature gives us such a variety to admire.

When ever I am being a Local Tourist, I always seem to find flowers to admire and enjoy.

I love Ducks, they seem to be such happy little fellows. There is often a Lake or Duck Pond in the Gardens; I always look out for it.

This little Duck came over to have a chat when I was at Playford Lake in the Belair National Park one morning. It was such a pleasure to sit and have her come up to me.She was probably hoping for food, but I did not have any and feeding the birds here is not encouraged. It is so nice to be somewhere where the wildlife are not afraid of people.
Belair National Park is another of the places where I enjoy being a Local Tourist.

So here's my tip for today. Take regular time out, go immerse yourself in your local beauty spots and enjoy the scenery near where you live. Have quiet time amongst the trees and the flowers which will help you to re-charge your batteries. You will be glad that you did.
