The Gap In The Fence.
One day last Summer I was out walking when I came across this dog peering out at me through a gap in the fence. The dog was so excited when I stopped to chat with it and take it's photo. Then another dog came over for a chat and wanted his photo taken too. Both dogs kept pushing each other out of the way so that they could each have a chat with me.
The dogs made me think about how so many of us look at life as if we too were peering through a gap in the fence.
We hide behind the fences that we have built around ourselves, fearful that life will hurt us in some way. We go through the motions of living, never really engaging with life, often shutting ourselves away from relationships and joyful experiences.
I makes me sad that so many people live behind fences when they do not need to. Fences are built with fear and fear can be conquered. There are many, many different fears that contribute to making a fence, just as there are many different kinds of fences. But with courage, determination and persistence the fences can be torn down. Life can become enjoyable and successful. All you have to do is to find the gate in your fence, open it and choose to step through. However, you may need some help. That's OK. Help is available, all you have to do is ask.
